The point is simple economics of labour. One jumbo roll replaces roughly a dozen standard rolls, so cleaning staff refill far less often, washrooms run out less often, and you spend less time managing stock. In a busy office block, school or shopping centre, that difference adds up fast.
What is a mini jumbo toilet roll?
A mini jumbo is the same concept in a smaller footprint. Mini jumbo rolls generally run between 150 and 200 metres and fit compact dispensers designed for washrooms where a full-size jumbo dispenser would be overkill or simply would not fit on the wall.
Mini jumbos are the sensible default for cafes, small offices, salons, single-cubicle washrooms and anywhere traffic is steady but not heavy. Jumbos make more sense once footfall climbs and refill trips start eating into the cleaning schedule.

The bit everyone gets wrong: core size
Here is where most ordering errors happen. Both jumbo and mini jumbo rolls come in two standard core diameters:
- 60mm core (roughly 2.25 inches)
- 76mm core (roughly 3 inches)
The dispenser has a fixed spindle or hub. If your dispenser is built for a 76mm core and you order 60mm rolls, the roll rattles around and dispenses badly. Order the other way round and the roll simply will not go on the spindle at all.
How to check your core size in 30 seconds
- Open the dispenser and take out the roll currently in it.
- Measure the internal diameter of the cardboard tube with a tape measure or ruler.
- Around 6cm means a 60mm core. Around 7.5cm means 76mm.
- If the dispenser is empty, measure the spindle or hub the roll sits on instead.
Do this once, write the answer inside the dispenser door with a marker, and you will never order the wrong roll again.
A common myth worth clearing up
Buyers often assume a bigger core means less paper on the roll. That is not necessarily true. UK manufacturers commonly supply the same paper length on both core sizes, with the roll diameter adjusting to suit. Always buy on stated metreage, not on how big the roll looks.
Working out what you actually need
Match the format to the traffic, not to the price list:
- Under about 50 users a day — mini jumbo at 150m is usually plenty.
- 50 to 200 users a day — mini jumbo at 200m, or step up to jumbo if refill trips are a nuisance.
- Over 200 users a day, or hard-to-reach washrooms — jumbo at 300m or 400m every time.
The second question is fibre. Pure white virgin pulp rolls give a brighter, softer finish that suits front-of-house and hospitality settings. Recycled rolls cost less per metre and support sustainability reporting, which matters if you are tendering for public sector or corporate contracts.
Buying in trade quantities
Jumbo and mini jumbo rolls are almost always sold in cases of 12. Once you know your core size and length, buying by the pallet is where the real savings sit, because the cost per metre drops sharply and you stop paying repeat delivery charges.
